What Others Are Saying About Baseball Bats| Ban of metal bats.... | | I just read a news headline that says "New York City considering ban on metal bats". Well, my first thought was "Wow, are metal bats used so much in crimes that they have to be banned?" Then a co-worker and I started talking about other things they could do to deter crime. So then I start to read the article and it is actually about banning metal bats in to help prevent injuries to players that use them. My first question is ws I terribly wrong in my assumption of what the article is about? Also, does government really need to babysit us so closely that the say what sports equipment we use? Gun control is ridiculous, in my view, and would join the NRA in a heartbeat, but I would never, never own any kind of firearm. The temptation to go grab the damned thing every time you get mad would always be there. In so many instances a minor scrap leads to a shooting death just because a gun was available to one or more parties to the dispute. | | Getting Clients To Pay | | I freelance web design and host websites, as well as do some graphic work, etc...the biggest problem I have encountered as a freelancer, is getting clients to cough up the money when the job is done.
After the first couple times it happened, I began to ask for half of my initial estimate up front. That worked a little better, but then had trouble getting the remainder from a couple clients. (Mind you, these are successful small-town business owners for the most part, and NOT hurting for money.)
They're always very happy with the work I provide, they're just....I guess...they're just cheap. They seem to think I should work for free, or add this, add that, and they should not have to pay for it. I should just "donate" it, or give them a special cut rate. (I've actually HAD clients ask me to DONATE my time to them, their business, their project, etc.) I earn my living off my freelance work. They either don't realize or don't care that if I don't get paid, then I don't' eat and get to live in the dark.
Its very frustrating.
Hosting is another beast altogether. I prefer lump sum, yearly payments as it is usually less hassle for everyone (me & client alike). But a few accounts... | |

| | The day arives. | | You wake up one Tuesday morning for work, day like any other, get up, turn on the tv for background noise as your getting ready. On the news they are talking about some people being attacked around your city, or the nearest city near you, cops seemed a little busier then normal seemed some crazy homeless people had been found attacking people and cops had to stop them by shooting them. Oh well you think another day more crime. You dont pay that much attention though, getting ready for work is more important, so you miss that the attackers were biting people and some of the ones bit had gotten sick and had to be taken to the hospital. A few had died. Or so it seems, as you get in your car you hear the tale end of a news report before turning on your cd player. Something about one of the dead getting up and leaving the morgue but you still dont pay that much attention, rather hear music then more bad stuff on the news. Thinking the doctors must have made a mistake, hell it can happen. Hell happens all the damn time. | | american history x and hate crimes | | hi all!my professor once showed "American History X" for her film showing in Philosophy. i liked the movie because it made me aware of American society's issue regarding hate crimes and discrimination. it also made me aware that even the most vile person can change for the best.however, in real life, i am saddened by the resurgence of hate crimes, racism and discrimination by some Americans against immigrants. one of the most recent ugly bouts of racism i read in the news was two Ecuadorean brothers being beaten up after some Americans shouted anti-gay (they thought the two were lovers) and anti-Hispanic slurs, and proceeded to beat them up with baseball bats. sadly, one of the two Ecuadoreans died in the hospital.i guess hate crimes and racism still exists in some of the people in that society. i wish they would change, since they should be thankful that immigrants are the ones doing the lowly jobs thay they do not want to do (maids, construction workers, waiters, etc.). racism should not exist in a civilised world. american history x taught us how ugly racism can be and that there is still hope if people would change. | |
